About Portus

Thirty years on the owner's side, now available as advice.

Portus Advisory International is a small senior firm. It works on port, logistics, industrial and energy decisions with people who have already had to take them, and had to live with the results.

Our Story

Why the firm exists

Analysis is usually available. What is harder to buy is someone who has already made this decision once and can tell you where it went wrong.

Youssef Imghi spent more than thirty years running port and infrastructure organisations before founding Portus Advisory International. He had sat in the chair where the decision had to be signed, usually with less time and less money than the problem deserved, and often with an election somewhere on the horizon. The firm exists to put that experience within reach of people now in the same position.

Independence was the point. Advice about whether to build something is worth less when it comes from whoever would build it, supply the technology, or arrange the finance. Portus has no such interest to protect. Its view of an assignment was formed on the owner's side: in institutions that had to decide, in companies that had to deliver, and in terminals that then had to work.

The firm stays small and senior. It does not pretend to hold every technical, financial, legal or environmental discipline in house, and clients are better served when it says so early. What it holds is the strategic and institutional view that ties those disciplines together, and it brings in specialists when an assignment needs them.
